Tinnitus isn’t new. But perhaps it’s new to you, like a loud used car you can’t return. A constant ringing or buzzing is usually how tinnitus is experienced but not always. The sound can be, at times, very loud. However tinnitus manifests for you, this point is most likely true: you are probably looking for new ways of coping with your tinnitus if it’s something that’s troubling you.
The good news is that new therapies and treatment options are being developed that aren’t cures for tinnitus but can help you deal with it. Certain of those therapies even involve your tongue.
The Most Recent Way to Manage Tinnitus
Possibly the most novel tinnitus treatment that we’ve seen appears to offer quite a bit of promise, even if it appears a little odd at first. Both the ear and the tongue are stimulated with this device designed at the Trinity School of Medicine in Dublin. Bi-modal neurostimulation is the technical term for this technique.
The results were fairly striking with this device based on the first tests. Most individuals underwent treatments for a duration of twelve weeks or so. Those same people noted a substantial decrease in their tinnitus symptoms, and the results continued for up to twelve months. But this type of therapy is still in testing and not extensively available yet.
How Can I Get Relief From my Tinnitus Now?
Naturally, it takes a while for devices to go from research and development to patient availability. So how can you deal with your tinnitus right now?
Luckily, there are some newer tinnitus management devices available today. And one of the best new methods of managing tinnitus is something you’ve probably already heard of: your hearing aid.
It works like this:
Everyday sounds are boosted by hearing aids. When you begin losing your hearing, the sounds of the outside world get quieter and that can make the internal sounds of tinnitus get louder. A hearing aid can boost the volume on the rest of the audio spectrum. That doesn’t change the volume of your tinnitus, but it might make the ringing less noticeable.
Your hearing aid can mask the sound. If your hearing loss is relatively mild, then a masking device may be the best way to deal with your symptoms. A masking device basically looks like a hearing aid. And some hearing aids can be augmented with masking technology. This technology can emit sounds specially designed to mask your tinnitus symptoms. At times this will be a tone, in other cases, it may be some white noise. Whatever is going to best hide the ringing in your ears.
Needless to say, this is only a starting point. We can help you find the best choice for you so call us for a consultation.
